About Student Affairs

The Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) collaborates with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and many others to provide programmes and key support services that complement NUMโ€™s academic excellence. The DSA is responsible for the student housing and residence, student health services, studentsโ€™ religious and spiritual life, sports and recreation, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

The DSA is head by a Director who oversees student rights and responsibilities, academic integrity, academic advising, the student disciplinary process, and student recognition.

Vision

The DSA at NUM, embodies the vision of the university by providing an appropriate environment so students can excel in their programme of study.

Mission

The mission of the DSA is to ensure holistic development and grooming of students within a safe, healthy, inclusive, and supportive environment by maintaining discipline on campus.

Objectives

  1. To offer comprehensive programmes and services to advance co-curricular learning, foster student leadership, enhance the quality of student life, and promote the general welfare of the campus community.
  2. To foster a positive learning environment that fosters successful learning and personal growth and development.
  3. To encourage students to initiate positive and constructive activities that helps them to achieve and improve the objective of a balanced personality.
  4. To promote co-curricular activities and provide opportunities, resources, and support to students to organize competitions, functions, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, Fresher Fair, and Ball.
  5. To maintain discipline in the campus and to provide a favorable environment to the students.
  6. To provide counseling and guidance to the students to cope up with their daily stresses of life and building up their characters and personalities as a responsible citizen.

Structure

The DSA is divided into the following administratively units.

  1. Counseling Unit
  2. Hostel Management and Allocation Unit
  3. National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Unit
  4. Scholarships and Bursaries Unit

Mode of Communication with Students

When you become a NUM student, you will be given your own University Email Account. Your address will be in this format <your surname and initials >@student.num.edu.ng

Various University services and offices will be sending important emails to your Student Email Account, so you need to ensure you can access it and use it to your advantage.

As a student, you are responsible for checking your Student Email Account on regular basis. You will be expected to read and respond to information delivered to your Student Email Account from the University.

You may already have a personal email account (with Hotmail, yahoo mail, Gmail, etc.) but you should use your Student Email Account for all email correspondence with the University.
