The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) was established to deliver high quality education, scholarship and research designed to equip students with the comprehensive knowledge, skills and hands-on experience that will prepare them for a successful career in their chosen field.

Mission

The mission is to provide excellent and innovative research and education, entrepreneurship, and professional leadership in computing and information sciences, including in interdisciplinary areas that benefit the university, state, nation and the world.

Vision

The vision is to be among the nation’s premier research and teaching programs in Computing and Informatics, with leadership and recognition in identified focus areas in first-class pedagogical environment.

 

Philosophy

The faculty shall foster a broad and interdisciplinary view of computing and informatics to lead the nation in creating a new innovation to solve real human problems in areas such as healthcare, education, poverty, security, and the environment in a welcoming environment, a diverse faculty and student body.

Faculty Objectives

The FCIT aims at achieving the following objectives:

  1. To keep pace with academic advances in international universities in the field of computation and informatics.
  2. To increase learners’ experience by enabling them to solve academic and practical problems in their areas of specialization.
  3. To enable graduates to compete in the fields of computation and informatics.
  4. To support continuous development through partnerships with local and international companies.
  5. To connect programs through integrated courses designed and taught through advanced technology.
  6. To integrate academic programs by bridging the gap between theoretical advances and practical applications.
  7. To participate in offering consultation and training programs in the fields of computer science and Information Technology within community service programs.

The Dean is responsible for supporting and overseeing the departments and academic mission of the Faculty. The office of the Dean works closely with faculty and staff to manage and direct the academic and research activities of the Faculty in support of the intellectual and educational mission of the University.

About

The Department of Computer Science’s undergraduate and graduate curriculum is based on the application and theoretical foundations of computer science. The Department is made up of computer science specialties that include artificial intelligence, data mining, bioinformatics, network security, human computer interaction, and more. The department oversee the computer laboratories that provide support for students and staff in the University.

In addition to the computer science degrees, the department faculty are involved in the conducting research that advances human understanding of Computing and benefits the economy and society.

The Head of Department oversee both academic and administrative activities of the Department. The Department boast of outstanding faculty in different specialties in the field of Computer Science.

About

The Department of Information Technology conducts education and research focusing on advanced design and use of computer systems in science and technology. The Department cover a wide range of issues, from construction of computer systems, via programming of computers, storage and handling of data, to information retrieval and methods for applying computers in a variety of contexts.

The core academic activities of the Department prepare its graduates for employment in the technology sector as designers, testers, support technicians, system administrators, developers, or programmers who use computer software and/or hardware to design, process, implement and manage information systems in specialties such as database services, security, business intelligence, healthcare informatics and others depending on the technical path selected within this curriculum. The foundation we instill in our students prepares them for success as IT professionals anywhere in the nation or world.

The mission of the Information Technology Department is to educate each of our students to develop marketable, lifelong learning skills and the ability to succeed at using technology to solve problems upon employment in a globally competitive diverse environment.

The Department’s main objectives include;

  • To develop highly-skilled graduates who are employable, entrepreneurial, and contribute towards the sustainable development of the country.
  • To significantly contribute to the empowerment of the community and the society at large through innovation and the conduct and publication of quality applied research in ICT.
  • To conduct IT consulting management information systems, technology management, management science, statistics, and production and operations management.
