The minimum entry requirements described below should be seen as benchmarks only. The University recognizes that a wide variety of other qualifications and learning may provide appropriate evidence of an applicant’s suitability for admission.
The University will use its discretion to interpret such formal minimum attainment levels in terms of equivalence, with advice from external agencies (NUC or professional councils) as appropriate.
Entry Requirements for Undergraduate Degree Programmes
Admission into undergraduate degree programmes of the University is based on the faculty and/or departmental requirements. Please check the specific subject requirements for each programme. Meanwhile, the general minimum admission requirements for undergraduate programmes of the University include the following:
University Matriculation Examination (100 Level)
This is admission conducted through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) consequent to writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) .
The applicant shall possess the WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO or its equivalent (from a recognized institution) with credit passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics in not more than two sittings. A candidate shall, in addition, have an acceptable score in UTME in relevant subject combination.
Direct Entry (200 Level)
- The applicant must possess a pass at Lower Credit/Merit level in relevant Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), National Certificate of Education (NCE) or equivalent in addition to meeting the O’ Level requirements for admission into undergraduate programmes; or
- Two GCE or Cambridge A’ Level or the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) or the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) passes in relevant subject combinations in addition to meeting the O’ Level requirements for admission into undergraduate programmes; or
- Three A’ Level passes in relevant subjects with WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO ‘O’ Level credit passes in 3 subjects obtained in not more than one sitting.
- In all cases, an O’ Level credit in English Language and Mathematics shall be required.
Inter-University Transfer
Students registered for higher degrees in other universities recognized by the NUM Senate may transfer to any degree programmes (undergraduate or postgraduate) if they meet the University’s conditions for entry into such degrees.
Students can transfer into 200-Level provided they have the relevant qualifications and the requisite cGPA. See the student handbook for credit transfer procedures.

International Applicants
The application process is the same for all students and there is no international quota for any of our programme of study. However, applying to study at NUM requires you to understand both the general Nigeria educational system and aspects that are particular to NUM.
International applicants to any of our programmes must have a qualification that is recognized for university entry in his/her home country or country where he/she has studied. The applicant will be offered provisional admission for one semester pending equating of his/her qualification by the relevant professional body in Nigeria.
Within the framework of the general direct entry requirements, there may be special faculty requirements that a candidate must fulfil to gain admission to a programme in a specific faculty or school.
