About this Programme
Human resource (HR) managers are the stewards of a company’s workforce. Without their expertise in finding and retaining the right employees, an organization can struggle to achieve its sustainability and growth goals. Because human resource managers are such a vital component of a company’s success, they need to learn and cultivate high-level knowledge and skills.
The Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management will equip students with the necessary skills to successfully manage human capital within organizations. A focused curriculum will cover topics that include building effective teams, compensation, global human resources, personal leadership skills, diversity and inclusion, recruitment, training and development, labor laws, and consulting.
The Program of Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management at Newgate University aims to:
- Provide specialized knowledge of human resource management, including techniques, theories, business models and ethical principles required to pursue a profession and continue post-graduate studies
- Enhance student’s ability to apply generalized and specialized knowledge, skills and competence to a wide variety of practical scenarios in the local, regional and global business environment
- Enable students to apply research and theoretical knowledge in professional practice within contemporary organizations
- Foster student’s understanding of diversity, culture, globalization, social responsibility and ethics in business
- Develop student’s skills in technological agility, including decision making and integrating current and emerging technologies within business contexts
- Provide students with learning environment needed to develop professional and technological skills to satisfy labor market needs
- Cultivate transferrable skills on leadership, collaboration, problem solving, communication, analytical thinking, independent and life-long learning to enhance employability and adapt to rapidly changing environments
On completion of B.Sc. in Human Resources Management, graduates will be able to:
- acquire knowledge of industrial relations and Personnel Management and be able to apply appropriate strategies in personnel management functions land be professionally qualified to practice the profession.
- Integrate human resource management systems in dynamic and multicultural global organizations
- Apply effective management consulting skills to diagnose and solve complex organizational issues.
Candidates for admission into the four-year degree programme in Human Resource Management should:
- Possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate either by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sittings including Mathematics, English Language and Economics, plus any two Social Science subjects.
- In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in UTME. The UTME subjects must be in the following: English, Mathematics, Economics and any other Social Science subject.
Direct Entry
- Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credits, in GCE, SSCE, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or their equivalents, of which at least two shall be at Advanced Level/Diploma provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examination. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Economics are require.
