The Senate is the supreme academic organ of the University. The University Senate shares responsibility for regulations and procedures for the governance of the university with primary responsibility for establishing academic policies, rules, and regulations including:
- Standards of admission and retention (examinations) of students.
- Requirements for granting degrees offered by the University.
- Curricula of the University.
- Instructional and research standards and policies throughout the University.
- Standards for those aspects of student life which relate to the education process student including discipline.
The following members constitute the Senate:
- Vice-Chancellor – Chairperson;
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (s);
- University Librarian;
- All Academic Deans;
- Directors of academic institutes/centres including including the Director of Student Affairs;
- Heads of academic departments;
- Director of Academic Planning;
- All professors of the University;
- One elected representative from each faculty; and
- Registrar – Secretary.
