The University’s Research and Innovation policy describes the University’s commitment to supporting research and innovation among its student, faculty and researchers. It provides a guiding framework to facilitate the planning, and implementation of research and innovation activities within the University. The policy puts emphasis on provision of research opportunities, quality and ethics in research and innovation, efficiency and effectiveness in coordination and management of research and innovation at NUM.

Strategic Research Goals and Objectives
The following are NUM strategic research goals and objectives:
- Promotes shared responsibility, ethical conduct of research, and compliance.
- Creates integrated services, transparent research administration, infrastructure, and streamlined processes.
- Supports strong infrastructure for interdisciplinary research.
- Increase the number of proposals submitted and annual funds received for support of research and other sponsored programs by 10%, each year.
- Maintain 100% compliance with state and federal regulations in conducting research and other sponsored programs.
- Promote the inclusion of research, scholarly, creative, or inquiry projects as a required component of the curriculum in all degree programmes.
- Develop a community of accomplished teacher-scholars to provide high quality mentoring support for all categories of students to have successful research experiences.
- Assist Faculties in organizing national and international scientific conferences.
- Assist and oversee the operation of Research Committees in all Faculties and Institutes to promote and encourage interdisciplinary research activities among Faculties and Departments.
- Cooperate with colleges in developing joint graduate programmes with local and international academic institutions.
Office of Research Administration
The office of Research Administration provides guidance and support for for all research endeavors in NUM. Research Administration provides guidance and stewardship for researchers while ensuring compliance with federal, University, and private sponsor regulations, terms, and conditions. Additionally, the Office serves as the secretariat to the Research Grants and Publication Committee of Senate. The committee rank and approve research proposals, and recommend them for award of research grants.
The office is headed by a Director who is mandated to ensure that research programmes and activities are focused, directional and result-oriented.
