About the Faculty
The Faculty of Law at Newgate University Minna is named after the late Hon. Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, a distinguished Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The Faculty of Law Complex, commissioned on 22 December 2023, is a symbol of our commitment to excellence in legal education.
Mission
To provide high-quality legal education, foster intellectual curiosity and instil social responsibility, producing graduates well versed in legal principles, critical thinking and ethical standards.
Vision
To be a leading institution in legal education, known for excellence, innovation in teaching and research, and the development of principled and skilled legal professionals.
Aims and objectives
The Faculty fuses academic and practical approaches to produce practitioners and scholars who can function in every area of the legal profession. It aims to:
- train lawyers who use law to resolve social, economic and political conflicts and who can serve as advisers, solicitors or advocates to governments, businesses, families and other bodies;
- combine current theory with clinical experience so graduates understand the social settings in which legal problems arise;
- use problem-based learning, simulations and real clients, with formative assessment of every lesson;
- meet the host community's need for legal counselling in micro-finance, small businesses, agriculture, land use and customary tenancy; and
- use modern technologies, especially ICT, to achieve these objectives.
