This is to bring to the notice of the university community that in view of the forthcoming Easter and edil- fitr sallah celebrations, the Management and Senate of Newgate University Minna has approved and declared two weeks break for both staff and students of the university with effect from Friday 29th March, 2024 to Saturday, 13th April, 2024. Work and normal academic activities resume fully on campus on Monday, 15th April, 2024.

However, all academic staff are directed to continue with online teaching and engaging the students with academic activities for the semester as the semester runs throughout the break period. The Ramadan lecture timetable currently in use will be maintained during the period of the break.

Furthermore, staff and students are to also note that the University Library will be opened for users between 9:00am to 3:00pm except for public holidays.

The Management and Senate of Newgate University Minna hereby wishes everyone, staff and students a pleasant Easter festival and peaceful edil-fitr sallah celebrations in advance.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Yusuf Sadiq with FMSS Students

The event will kickstart on Tuesday 23rd May with the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences hosting a lecture themed: Professionalism and the Need for Unity in Service Delivery Amongst Health Professionals at the university auditorium by 10:00am and on Wednesday 24th May, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences will kickstart their day with a symposium themed: Impact of Governance, Communication and International Community on the Current Economic Realities in Nigeria at the university auditorium by 10:00am.

On Thursday 25th May, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology will be hosting a one-day conference and student Hackathon competition which will be followed by a picnic in the evening, and Friday will see the students and staff go head to head in sports competition.

The grand finale and cultural festival which is aimed at giving students the platform to showcase their talents, boost their confidence, network with peers and professionals, stand out from the crowd and generally to have fun will be held on Saturday by 9:00am at the city campus.

The programs highlighted in the week are not just built around having fun, but extends the opportunity for students and staff to build stronger bonds, strengthen relationships and also promote peaceful coexistence on campus.

Prof Sadiq Yusuf was educated at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria where he obtained
a PhD in Physiology. He received his postdoctoral training in Neural System and Behavior at
the prestigious Marine Biological Laboratory [MBL], Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA
Over the last 30 years, Prof Yusuf has gained extensive experience in the fields of teaching,
managing scientific research and academic education of undergraduate and postgraduate
students. He is a recipient of a number of research grants from the International Brain
Research Organization, Welcome Trust, International Society of Neurochemistry, Company
of Biologists and other organizations to conduct research and train Neuroscientists in Africa
on the use of simple animal models to conduct cutting-edge research in Neuroscience and
Neurogenetics.
Beyond his teaching and research activities, he has acquired in-depth Knowledge of
University’s administration, policies and procedures as he has held top-level administrative
positions in some of the top private Universities in Uganda, East Africa. He served as the
Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics at Kampala International University, Uganda and Vice
Chancellor of Uganda Technology and Management University.
Over the years, Prof Yusuf has played a pivotal role in the establishment of innovative staff
development programmes, student scholarship schemes, and a biomedical research institute
at the various institutions where he has served. Working with his international
collaborators, he co-founded the Teaching and Research in Natural Sciences for Development
(TReND) in Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization based in the United Kingdom,
dedicated to the advancement of Neuroscience research and education in Africa.
Prof. Yusuf is the current Secretary General of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa
(SONA).
He has interest in the integration of information and communication technologies into the
delivery of education to students. He is Happily Married to Amina Aminu Yusuf. They are
blessed with three (3) Children.
